DENNIS GARCIA

At the age of three Dennis Garcia’s father gave him a miniature piano accordion. By the time Dennis left his rural Queensland home for the bright lights of the Goldcoast, he had swapped accordion for the Hammond Organ and began his colourful musical career. Playing in a number of bands including ‘The Mixtures’ who scored a Top of the Pops hit in both the UK and Australia and ‘Running, Jumping, Standing Still’, an R&B band best known for smashing £2000 worth of equipment during a show, Dennis embarked on a solo tour of psychedelic art venues in Holland and Belgium 1972. Inspired, he began experimenting with bio-feedback electronic devices, synthesizers and drum machines, which led to the groundbreaking ‘Jive to Stay Alive’ album. The world was not ready for Garcia's bio-feedback performances, yet fans of his work included David Bowie with whom he toured in 1978 and led to further success. Dennis toured with Grace Jones in 1981 and performed as a session musician for classic Australian pop groups such as Master's Apprentices, The Seekers and The Little River Band. He now lives in remote tropical North Queensland and continues his passion for music and electronics.
